(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) CAIRO, Feb 7 (KUNA) -- Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmad Abul-Gheit said Thursday both economic and social dimensions wield much sway in international dynamics and policies.
Addressing the 103rd session of the Economic and Social Council of the Arab League at the ministerial level, chaired by Oman, Abul-Gheit said Arab economic and social policies need to be developed in order to serve public interest and safeguard Arab safety and security.
He emphasized that all economic and social subjects should be put on the agenda of the coming Arab summit in Tunis through a roadmap involving unequivocal goals and mechanisms.
He underlined that the resolutions and recommendations adopted during the recent fourth Arab economic summit in Beirut are of paramount significance.
The Arab League is eager to revamp the Economic and Social Council's performance and to promote its mechanisms purposed to shore up Arab cooperation and coordination, he pointed out.
On his part, Chairman of the Session and Deputy Secretary-General of the Economic and Social Council Talal Al-Rahbi underlined the importance of the meeting to the development of Arab economic cooperation.
The conferees will discuss the latest development of a planned Arab free trade area, facilitation of trade exchange and follow-up of resolutions adopted during previous Arab summits. (end) ms.hdr.mt
