Oman- Taxi meter mandatory unless parties agree on fare: MOTC

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- A statement issued by the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MOTC) on Wednesday clarifies that while it is mandatory for orange and white taxis to install electronic meters, it has no objection if the two parties (the passenger and driver) agree on a fare for a trip.

A ministerial decision(No 195/2018) issued earlier made it mandatory for taxis to install meters to preserve the rights of passengers as well as drivers.

Speaking to Muscat Daily, EngAhmed bin Sulaiman al Yaribi, director ofLand Transport in MOTC, said, "Taxi meters in white and orange taxis are binding to safeguard the rights of drivers and passengers. But if both parties - driver and passenger – agree on a specific fare, there is no problem.'
