Iraq foils planned rocket attack on military base hosting US troops


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BAGHDAD, Feb. 2 (KUNA) -- The Iraqi army has derailed a planned rocket attack on Ain Al-Asad military base which hosts US troops in the central Anbar province.

In a press statement, the army stated that the seventh unit of the army had discovered three Grad type rockets in Tal Al-Doulab region in Anbar directed towards the base.

It added that the rocket launchers were connected to electronic timers.

The Iraqi forces had managed to defuse the rocket launchers only 15 minutes before the firing time. (end) ahh.ibi
