IS militants try to cross into Iraq from Syria

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BAGHDAD, Feb 2 (KUNA) -- Gunmen of the so-called Islamic State attacked Iraqi Border Guards across the Iraqi-Syrian borders trying to sneak into Iraqi territories from neighboring Syria.

A security source said on Saturday that one Iraqi soldier was killed and another wounded in the assault, however the troops succeeded in repelling the militants and foiling their bid to infiltrate into the Iraqi lands.

The IS militants, who in past years expanded their presence on large swathes of land in Iraq and Syria, are now confined in a very small strip of land in the border region. (end) ah.rk
