Amman, Jan. 29 (Petra) - Jordan has a great potential to lure in investors due to the economic opportunities and major strategic projects available in vital sectors, Amman Chamber of Commerce (ACC) Board of Directors said.
The Board stressed the need for a comprehensive review of legislation and regulations that adversely affect the business environment in the Kingdom, which requires devising a "road map" for all economic activities to promote the principle of self-reliance and make progress in the production domain.
In a statement issued on the occasion of His Majesty King Abdullah's birthday, the Board said that Jordan is able to overcome the economic difficulties it faces, but it needs concerted efforts by the public and private sectors.
The sectors must work together to address the obstacles facing the business environment in the Kingdom, it added, stressing the importance of giving the private sector a bigger say in economic decision-making.
King Abdullah has put the economy at the top of his priorities and promoted Jordan's business environment in various international forums, the board stated, underlining the need to prepare a number of projects that constitute an added value in the national economy.
The statement said the ACC will continue its efforts to upgrade the services it provides to members of the commercial and service sectors, market Jordan internationally and boost trade cooperation with various countries, especially the Arab world.
When it was founded in 1923, the Chamber had only 40 businessmen as members, but it currently has around 50,000 companies and commercial and service firms with a capital of about 143 billion dinars distributed across all commercial sectors.
