Amman, Jan. 28 (Petra) - North Korea called on South Korea to suspend its military exercises, stating that the war games could compromise the "mood of peace and dialogue" in the Peninsula.

The Rodong Sinmun, the official newspaper of the North's ruling party, said in an article that "it is not something that can easily be overlooked that military authorities in South Korea have conducted war games from early this year by mobilizing a huge number of troops."

"This is a dangerous military action that runs counter to the current trend to move toward our people's reconciliation, peace and stability," it added.

The paper referred to an anti-terrorism drill and winter military exercises South Korea recently carried out across the country. It also criticized the South for its plans to increase its military budget for this year and bring in Stealth fighter jets in late March.
