Afghanistan- 209m afs projects being executed in Panjwai, Nawa towns


(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) KANDAHAR/LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Projects costing 179 million afghanis for the Panjwai district of southern Kandahar province and about 30 million afghanis for Helmand's Nawa district have been approved under the National Solidarity Program, officials said Wednesday.

As many as 153 projects, including canals, irrigation waterheads, retaining and protective walls, solar systems and tanks of clean drinking waters, will be executed in the Panjwai district, said a spokesman for the program in Kandahar, Atta Mohammad Helamand.

He said the projects would create jobs for 3000 people for 107 working days and would benefit 154,000 people. He said the projects would positively impact people's living standard and irrigate nearly 1000 acres of land.

In neighboring Helmand province, a number of reconstruction projects would be launched soon under the National Solidarity Program in Nawa district, said the district chief, Ayub Omar Omari.

He told Pajhwok Afghan News the projects, which include culverts, water reservoirs, canals, street pavement and provision of electricity to schools and clinics, would cost around 30 million afghanis.

He said work on the projects would be launched over the next 10 days and hundreds of youth would be provided work opportunity.
