Ecumenical Patriarchate adds Orthodox Church of Ukraine to list of autocephalous churches


(MENAFN- UkrinForm) The Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU) has been added to the list of autocephalous churches on the website of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.

Changes have been made on the respective page of the Ecumenical Patriarchate website.

The Orthodox Church of Ukraine is the last in the list "New Patriarchates - Autocephalous Churches," after the Orthodox Church of Czech Lands and Slovakia.

On January 5, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew signed a tomos of autocephaly of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine. On January 6, the Patriarchal Church of St. George in Istanbul hosted a tomos handover ceremony and a Divine Liturgy that was concelebrated by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and Head of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Ukraine Epiphanius.

In Ukraine, the tomos was first demonstrated at a festive divine liturgy at St. Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv on January 7. Subsequently, the tomos was signed by all members of the Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
