Qatar, South Korea book AFC Asian Cup quarterfinal clash


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, Jan 22 (KUNA) -- Qatar and South Korea booked a face-off in the AFC Asian Cup quarter-finals after both beat Iraq and Bahrain respectively on Wednesday in the continental tournament hosted by the United Arab Emirates.

Bassam Al-Rawi scored the sole goal in the 62nd minute as The Maroons edged a 1-0 win over Iraq at Abu Dhabi's Al-Nahyan Stadium.

In their subsequent fixture, South Korean's Kim Jin-su left it late in added time to regain Hwang Hee-chan's 43rd minute lead, which was later cancelled out by Mohammad Al-Rumaihi.

The winning teams will meet on Friday alongside a separate fixture pitting the host nation UAE and the champions Australia with the remaining two quarterfinals, Vietnam vs Japan and China vs Iraq, held tomorrow. (end) fs.sd
