Asian Cup: Iran's coach urges team not to waste chances against China

(MENAFN) Carlos Queiroz, coach of the Iranian national football team hailed the strong performance of the Chinese team ahead of a faceoff between them and his squad.

Iran's coach further called on his squad to take every opportunity to score a victory as they play against China in the quarter-finals of the 2019 AFC Asian Cup.

It comes after Iran claimed a 2-0 victory over Oman in the round of 16 knockouts on Sunday, advancing to the quarter-finals.

The coach commented: "we know how much the China team has progressed, especially under (head coach) Marcello Lippi. It will be another difficult game, as will all the matches going forward."

Queiroz noted: "we cannot waste chances like we did against Oman, we must play with a killer instinct and we need to put the ball in the net."

He further added: "in knockout football it is important to kill the game early, it gives you a tremendous advantage. The most important thing for the next game is to be calmer, to be smarter."
