The gross domestic product of Tajikistan last year increased by 7.3 percent and amounted to 68.8 billion somoni ($7.3 billion), said Prime Minister Kohir Rasulzoda in his report at a government meeting on January 21.

In his speech, Rasulzoda noted the growth of a number of indicators, including industrial production by 11.8 percent, agriculture by 4 percent, basic investments by 7.8 percent, total trade turnover by 15.4 percent and paid services for 2.1 percent. During the reporting period, inflation remained at a moderate level and amounted to 5.4 percent.

He said that in 2018, as many as 131 enterprises were created in Tajikistan.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister pointed out the shortcomings and omissions that were present last year, especially in the field of light industry and cotton processing.

It was noted that due to the lack of a full cycle of processing of cotton fiber within the country in 2018, the country exported 93,000 tons of cotton worth $ 165 million.

The Prime Minister considers that one of the reasons for incomplete processing of cotton in the country is the complete or partial standstill of a number of textile industry enterprises.

Such enterprises as Olim Textile CJSC, Valizoda Mastchoh OJSC in the Mastchinsky region, Samar OJSC in the Vose region and Bofandai Norak OJSC in Nurek were not operating in 2018.

The head of state charged the prime minister and his deputies Davlatali Said, Azim Ibrahim and Mahmadtoir Zokirzade to eliminate the existing gaps and weaknesses.

The Government of Tajikistan is guided by the Concept of National Development, adopted for the period until 2050. In accordance with it, the main objectives of the National Development Strategy (NDS)should be achieved by 2030. In the medium term, there is a program for 2016-2020.

The priority for Tajikistan is to increase the standard of living of the population. The first points of the plan were the elimination of poverty and hunger, the improvement of the health of citizens and the provision of quality education.

In addition, Tajikistan intends to ensure equality, civil peace, open society and environmental safety.

It is planned to achieve these goals by gaining energy independence and efficient use of electricity, breaking the communication deadlock and turning into a transit country. Further, according to the plan, ensuring food security and access of the population to high-quality nutrition come. The fourth point is the expansion of productive employment.

Three stages have been identified: the first should be completed in 2020, after which Tajikistan should move to a new growth model. The second stage is planned to be devoted to accelerated industrialization. The third period from 2025 will coverthe transition of Tajikistan to innovative development based on knowledge.

If at each stage everything goes according to plan and without failures, Tajikistan has a chance to move into the category of developed countries.
