Amir heads Qatar's delegation to Arab Development Summit in Beirut

DOHA:Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani heads the State of Qatar's delegation to the Arab Economic and Social Development Summit, slated for today (Sunday) in Beirut, at the invitation of President of the Lebanese Republic General Michel Aoun.

An official delegation is accompanying H H the Amir.

Earlier on Friday, H H the Amir had held via telephone a conversation with President of the Lebanese Republic General Michel Aoun. They discussed the most prominent topics on the agenda of the Arab Economic and Social Development Summit.

The Lebanese President had welcomed the participation of

H H the Amir in the summit. They also discussed bilateral relations and the means to enhance them in all fields, in addition to exchanging views on regional and international issues of joint interest.

Also, the meeting for Arab Foreign and Economy Ministers of the Socioeconomic Preparatory Council kicked off in Beirut on Friday in which the State of Qatar participated with a high level delegation consisting Minister of Finance H E Ali Shareef Al Emadi and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs H E Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi.

The meeting reviewed the item on the draft agenda of the summit including the Arab Emergency Food Security Program, the integration and trade exchange of agricultural crops, plant and livestock products, the Greater Arab Trade Zone and the completion of the requirements of establishing the Arab Customs Union and other items.

On Friday morning, a closed meeting of the Ministerial Committee on Follow-up and Preparation for the Summit had also been held in Beirut while the meeting of permanent representatives and senior officials in the Arab League started on Thursday in preparation for the Arab Economic and Social Development summit. Qatar's Permanent representative to the Arab League Ambassador Ibrahim Abdulaziz Al Sahlawi, headed Qatar's Delegation to the meeting.

The meeting discussed the draft agenda for the Summit which comprises 27 topics, including the Arab emergency food security program; the integration and trade of agricultural, plant and livestock products; the Greater Arab Trade Zone; completing of the requirements for the establishment of the Arab Customs Union and the Arab Charter for the development of the SMEs sector.
