Zimbabwe bans social platforms amid protests crackdown

(MENAFN) Zimbabwe has banned Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp messaging app amid an operation to tackle violent demonstrations.

A coalition of local human rights groups declared that over 12 people have died as several more were roughed up and tortured by security forces this week.

The Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum indicted the authorities of blocking the internet "to mask the massive human rights violations".

The demonstrations were triggered on Monday by a sharp increase in the price of fuel.
