Dutch export of agricultural goods exceeds 90 billion euro

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BRUSSELS, Jan 18 (KUNA) -- The Netherlands exported agricultural goods to the tune of 90.3 billion euro (USD 102 billion) in 2018, representing a slight rise of 0.2 percent on 2017.

The Dutch agriculture ministry announced in a statement Friday that The Netherlands is the second largest agricultural exporter in the world, after the United States.

A sizeable proportion of Dutch agricultural products is exported to Germany and Belgium with these two neighbouring countries together making up 36 percent of all Dutch agricultural exports. They are followed by the United Kingdom, France, Italy and Spain.

The greatest increases in Dutch agricultural exports in 2018 were to Japan, Morocco, Poland, Russia and China.

Minister for Agriculture, Carola Schouten said "export figures once again show that the Dutch agriculture and horticulture sector is a major player when it comes to producing food for a growing world population." The Netherlands earns most from horticulture, dairy and eggs, meat and vegetables.

Last year the Netherlands exported 9.2 billion euro (USD 10.4 billion) of goods related to agriculture, such as agricultural machinery, machinery for the food industry, greenhouse materials, fertiliser and plant protection products.

This represents an increase of 3.2 percent on 2017. Neighbouring countries Germany and Belgium were also the biggest buyers, noted the statement. (end) nk.ibi
