EU Commissioner for Energy Union to run for Presidency in Slovakia

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BRUSSELS, Jan 18 (KUNA) -- European Commission vice-president in charge for energy union and climate, Maros Sefcovic, announced Friday that he would run for president in his country Slovakia in March's election.

Sefcovic will take unpaid leave from his position at the EU executive body from 1 February, chief European Commission spokesman Margaritis Schinas, told a news conference today.

Last year, Sefcovic was briefly a candidate to be the Socialists and Democrats' 2019 nominee for European Commission president, but he dropped out of the race and endorsed Frans Timmermans. (end) nk.mt
