(MENAFN) Algeria set April 18th as the date for its anticipated presidential elections following weeks of delays as the country looks to choose its new leader.
The announcement was made in a statement President Abdelaziz Bouteflika's office issue on Friday and the Algeria Press Service released.
However, the Algerian president is yet to be known whether he will run alongside presidential candidates for the elections.
Opposition leaders on the other hand constantly called on Bouteflika to step aside and not participate in the election.
