Croatia looks to further deepen bilateral cooperation with Qatar

Qatar is a crucial partner of Croatia in the Gulf region and Croatia is ready to offer its reciprocal role in the South East and Central Europe in relation to Qatar, Drago Lovric, Ambassador of Croatia to Qatar stated on Tuesday.

Addressing the formal launch event of the recently-formed Croatian Business Council (CBC), Lovric said the development of bilateral relations with Qatar is of great importance for Croatia. In the period ahead, the partnership between Croatia and Qatar could easily become an example of cooperation to other Gulf countries. Within the context of the European Union, Croatia support closer cooperation with all Gulf countries, in all aspects.

The Ambassador said the economic relations between Qatar and Croatia have bright prospects because of the complementary nature of both the economies and significant mutual interests. Economic trade between Croatia and Qatar has achieved $64m in 2017. In 2017, almost 6000 Qatar Citizens and residents visited Croatia as tourists and this number has significantly surpassed last year.

This means, that Croatia is desirable destination for vacations for many citizens and resident of Qatar.

Lovric said Croatia can offer various products and services, but needs foreign investments, while Qatar has investment capital and needs certain products and services. Numerous Croatian food producers and suppliers offer Halal certified products and services. In the area of food production, Croatia has outstanding capacities and would welcome the opportunity to develop such production with the help of Qatar investment to ensure a large part of the Qatar's needs for the first-rate food products.

Speaking on the sidelines of the event, the Ambassador said Croatia is looking for opportunities in technology, food processing and hospitality sector. He said there are ample opportunities for investments in the sectors like energy, tourism, construction and defense sectors in Croatia.

Mario Lozancic, President of CBC, delivered the opening address. Domagoj I. Cerovac, member of the CBC Presidency made a presentation of the success stories of the Croatian Companies in Qatar.

The presentation showed the extent of activities of Croatian companies, ranging from construction, mechanical engineering and system solutions through IT solutions to household products and hospitality sector.

The event was marked by the scintillating performance of the awarded Croatian cellist Anna Rucner, who during her performance presented the tourist beauties of Croatia. The ceremony was attended by Salem Abdullah Sultan AL-Jaber Director of European Affairs Department and Ahmed Mohammed AL- Afraj European Affairs Department, Ambassadors and representatives of the Qatar business community.
