Beirut, Jan. 16 (Petra) - Minister of State for Media Affairs, Government Spokesperson, Jumana Ghneimat, said the professional media recognizes that the borderline between freedom of expression and violation of the privacy of the other is "a healthy issue".

"The policy of muting voices and freedoms doesn't avail and doesn't help to build societies. Thus, we believe in the necessity to develop the media legislation environment and provide the needed freedom as long as it is a national media working on the basis of objectivity and professionalism," the minister pointed out.

In a speech she delivered at the opening of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Regional Summit on Women, dubbed " Women in News (WIN)," currently held in the Lebanese capital, Ghneimat pledged to develop domestic legislations that boost the role of women in the media sector.

She highlighted the significance of empowering women politically and economically to make the necessary difference, which remains "a common concern".

The event is held under the auspices of the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA), and saw the participation of women
journalists from Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, and Palestine who have been part of the WIN MENA programme over the past four years.
