This kind of major nutrition survey is the first campaign to be launched in Somalia since a decade ago.

The Somali National Micronutrient Survey is set to be conducted in four months, the Somali ministry and UN body confirmed in a joint statement.

UNICEF Somalia acting representative Jesper Moller commented: "we feel very honored to be part of the process. We call on all health partners to continue investing in data collection to help us accurately assess and respond to the health and nutritional needs of children."

Moller added: "by doing so we help build a stronger and healthier workforce and economic foundation for Somalia."
