(MENAFN- UkrinForm) Speaker of the Ukrainian parliament Andriy Parubiy has thanked President of the National Council of the Republic of Austria Wolfgang Sobotka for the support Austria has provided to Ukraine during five years of Russian aggression.
Parubiy stated this during a joint briefing with Wolfgang Sobotka on Tuesday, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.
"We discussed our cooperation first of all, I thanked the head of the National Council for supporting Ukraine during all five years of Russia's aggression against Ukraine. During all five years, Austria has supported the position of introducing sanctions against the Russian Federation and condemns the aggressive actions of Russia both in Crimea and in the east of Ukraine," Parubiy said.
At the same time, the chairman of the Verkhovna Rada stressed that prompt reaction of Austria to Russia's aggressive actions in the Sea of Azov at the end of last year was particularly important for Ukraine.
"The head of the parliament assured me that Austria will continue its position on protecting Ukraine's sovereignty and condemning Russia's aggressive policy," Parubiy said.
Also, the speaker of the Ukrainian parliament thanked the Austrian colleague for humanitarian support, particularly the rehabilitation of Ukrainian children.
"I want to emphasize that the head of the parliament has invited orphan children to his hometown. The center of humanitarian aid for Ukrainian children will soon be opened in Ukraine," the Verkhovna Rada chairman said.
Parubiy also said that he discussed with Sobotka the further development of inter-parliamentary relations between Ukraine and Austria in defining the challenges facing the states and increasing cultural contacts. Thus, the Verkhovna Rada chairman noted that the 2019 year was proclaimed the Year of Ukrainian culture in Austria and added that this this would help Austrians to learn more about Ukraine.
