Outward Bound Oman hosts world conference as part of 10th anniversary

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- The Oman 2019 World Conference was formally opened by Outward Bound Oman patron H H Sayyid Faisal bin Turki al Said, on Tuesday at the Public Authority for Civil Aviation lecture hall. Then, the participants travelled to the Outward Bound Oman Desert Training Centre, near Al Qabil, for two days of intense debate, discussion and learning.

Every two years, senior staff from each of the training centres around the world gather to share best practice, and in 2019, as part of their tenth year celebrations, Outward Bound Oman is hosting the latest gathering, with over 120 delegates expected to attend. First established in the UK in 1941, the not-for-profit organisation Outward Bound now operates in 32 countries, and with nearly a quarter of a million people taking part in an Outward Bound course somewhere in the world each year, is recognised as the worlds leading provider of experiential learning.

Of particular note in the evolution of Outward Bound in Oman has been the support of the three founding partners who helped first establish Outward Bound in Oman in 2009: Dentons, Shell and Suhail Bahwan Group.

'These three organisations took the initial risk in trying to establish the operation here, so deserve much of the credit; in addition, the private sector and our extremely committed patron, H H Sayyid Faisal bin Turki al Said, has played a pivotal role in our growth,' said Suleiman al Harthy, board chairman, Outward Bound Oman.

Mark Evans, general manager, Outward Bound Oman commented, 'The rapid growth of Outward Bound in Oman is the result of the sustained hard work and commitment of many people, and of a genuinely productive and positive partnership between government, the private sector and the not-for-profit community. We thank everyone for their support and advice. For people to be speaking so highly of Oman in the global community is a great testimony to what is achievable when everyone works together, and reflects extremely positively on the nation.'

Oman is the first Arabic-speaking nation to set up an Outward-Bound operation to develop and challenge its human resource. Following the recent opening of its desert training centre, the Duke of York, chairman of the Outward Bound Trust in the UK, described Outward Bound Oman as 'a jewel in the global community', and the international review team concluded that the operation in Oman was 'absolutely exceptional', with 'an excellent focus on real learning'.

The first national outdoor training centre in the Sharqiyah sands has opened. Construction of the second, in Muscat, will be completed in 2019, a year that will also see construction of a third in Jebel Akhdar.
