Jordan- Repeated attacks on tourist buses will undermine sector, Senate warns

Amman, Jan 15 (Petra) –– The Senate's Tourism and Heritage Committee Tuesday condemned recurrent attacks on Jordan Express Tourist Transport (JETT) buses, and called for bringing the perpetrators to account.

In a statement, the committee's head Ghazi Abu Hassan questioned the authorities' silence over "these repeated and irresponsible behaviours, towards which no (punitive) measures had been taken".

The committee was reacting to a recent incident near the southern city of Maan in which unidentified assailants pelted a JETT bus with stones, smashing its windows, but no injuries were reported.

Hassan said that about 81 similar attacks occurred last year in four "hot spots" in the Kingdom, and warned that these would undermine tourism and affect revenue from the sector, noting that the attacks had gone unchecked when efforts were being made to turn Jordan into a global tourism destination.
