(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- Four Omanis have come together to set up the country's first geological tourism firm - GeoGuide Company. The Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) graduates Jasim al Rashdi, Bader al Kalbani, Waleed al Qasmi and Anas al Rashdi came together to promote geological tourism in the country.
Speaking to Muscat Daily
, Jasim al Rashdi, co-founder of GeoGuide Company, said, 'We graduated from SQU as geologists in November last year. The idea to start this company came up in March last year. Bader and Waleed, who are co-founders, came up with the idea to have a tourist app.
'The idea got the best project award at the 16th edition of Scientific Festival in SQU. Later, Anas and I joined the team. We worked on the idea and the company was finally set up on December 16, 2018.'
Jasim said that GeoGuide provides excursions for children, adventure trips, scientific trips for people specialising in geology and many other services. 'There are a lot of interesting geological spots in Oman such as the grand canyon in Jebel Shams, pillow lavas in Wadi al Jizi, eclogite in Sifah beach, Wadi al Maih and Bimmah sinkhole.'
He said that there was no company in Oman that specialised in geological tourism. 'We hope to be job creators in the future and contribute to the sultanate's economy. Our company is supported by the Ministry of Tourism.
'GeoGuide aims to make Oman the best geological tourism destination in the world. We use social media platforms to promote our company. We can be reached at GeoGuideOm on both Twitter and Instagram.'
Talking about the challenges, he said, 'Challenges are part of life. We believe that we can face any challenge in the future.'
