Man, girlfriend arrested for growing marijuana in home

(MENAFN- Asia Times) A British man and his Filipino girlfriend were arrested after marijuana plants worth PHP5 million (US$95,770) were found in their apartment in Subic in the Philippines.

On Friday morning during a buy-bust operation, Simon Stuart Mclaren Watson, 42, and Rizza Fernandez, 28, were found to have 70 marijuana plants growing in their apartment in the Santo Tomas area of Subic in Zambales, Philippines Lifestyle News reported.

The operation was conducted by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and Zambales Provincial Police Office.

Gil Pabilona , the PDEA's regional director, said Watson and Fernandez were put under surveillance for a month after a tip-off from neighbors that the apartment was being used to sell drugs to foreigners.

During the operation, Watson allowed an undercover agent to enter his home and allegedly sold him the drug. After the transaction was made, Watson and his live-in partner were arrested.

Watson's Filipina girlfriend denied ever smoking marijuana and claimed the plants were for Watson's personal use to cure his asthma and alleviate a spinal injury he sustained two years ago.

The couple were in the custody of the PDEA as charges were still being prepared against them.
