Amman, Jan. 13 (Petra) -- The Lower House of Parliament's Committee on Public Services and Transportation on Sunday met with President and CEO of Royal Jordanian (RJ) Stefan Pichler for a discussion on a number of issues concerning the national carrier.
Chairman of the Committee, MP Khaled Abu Hassan, said the committee was briefed by Pichler on key problems and hindrances facing the national carrier in addition to the plans and strategies the company will pursue over the next five years.
Members of the committee inquired about future plans and strategies that would upgrade RJ's services, boost its competitiveness and enhance its standing among regional airlines companies.
The committee voiced reservation over the new plans of RJ's management, saying such plans didn't achieve the desired goal and will therefore affect the company's image. The lawmakers called for more efforts to cement RJ's reputation and status.
Pichler told the committee that RJ had suffered in the past period of hardships and heavy losses because of higher fuel prices and strong competition from regional airlines companies.
He added that such situation necessitated the development of a new strategy for the next stage, explaining that the strategy is based on reducing costs, increasing profits and making drastic changes in the company's various levels of management.
