ABU DHABI, 12th January, 2019 (WAM) -- The Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2019 provides a multi-pronged approach through which the United Arab Emirates blazes a trail in addressing the global sustainable development agenda.

Taking off 10 years ago, the ADSW 2019 carries on a series of resounding successes made by the country over the past years which saw the UAE making confident progress in delivering the Vision 2021 goals, atop of which come youth's empowerment and expanding channels of international fruitful dialogue in a manner that expedites sustainable development-oriented efforts.

Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, ADSW sets a unique example to be emulated for countries wishing to be on the right sustainability track. Over eight days, the global event gathers together international and regional political, industry, and thought leaders from 175 countries to set the global sustainability agenda for the year and examine the long-term geopolitical and geo-economic implications of the changing global landscape.

In 2015, the UN adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals. In 2016, the Paris Agreement on climate change entered into force, addressing the need to limit the rise of global temperatures.

Looking into the global topic from a comprehensive perspective, the UAE leadership has, over he past years, reinforced the concept of sustainability by accelerating the steps toward digitalisation and innovation.

This year, the ADSW starts with the ninth session of the Assembly of the Abu Dhabi -based IRENA, where a special focus is laid on digitalisation of the energy to eliminate the borders between producers and consumers, with ‘prosumers' emerging and playing a significant role in the energy trade market.

Over the past years, Masdar has been extending channels of collaboration with various state departments concerned to enrich the global event in a way matching the coveted global stature now boasted by the UAE and its diligent and world-class steps forward towards sustainability.

Coinciding this year with the Year of Tolerance, ADSW 2019 comes to carry forward the value of tolerance, the seeds of which were sown by late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, to reflect the UAE leaders' ambitious vision to be second to none through the encouragement of innovation and building fruitful partnerships with various world nations.
