#CES2019: Samsung showcases 5G phone prototype
11 Jan 2019
On the occasion of CES 2019, Samsung unveiled some amazing TVs, laptops, and cute but functional robots.
But, along with all the flashy stuff, it is also showcased a 5G prototype phone.
The device wasn't open for use, but its presence clearly indicates that the world's largest phone maker is inching closer to releasing a 5G-capable device, soon.
Here are all the details.
Phone packed in case, sealed inside a box
As 5G is the future of connectivity, Samsung has been racing to get its first 5G-ready device into the market.
Rumors suggest the first 5G device from the company will be a variant of its Galaxy S10, but it is not clear if this is the same unit.
It was sitting in a protective cover inside a transparent box, hiding all the key details.
Still, the punch hole camera was spotted
Venture Beat shared photographs of the device, revealing Bixby and volume rockers on the left and power button on the right side.
The unit looked pretty thin and even seemed to have a punch hole camera in the upper right corner.
Notably, this falls in line with the rumors suggesting that one Galaxy S10 model will come with a punch hole camera design.
When will we see Samsung's 5G device?
Samsung didn't reveal much about its prototype 5G phone or when its final avatar is expected to launch.
However, going by rumors, the first 5G device from the company is expected to show up in the first half of 2019 itself.
This could be a variant of S10 or a completely different device sporting high-end capabilities.
Meanwhile, when Galaxy S10 series will launch?
Samsung has scheduled a Galaxy 'Unpacked' event on February 20 for the launch of S10, S10+, and S10 Lite. It is tipped that the phones will launch with Super AMOLED Infinity O displays, ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanners (S10, S10+), and Snapdragon 855/Exynos 9820 processors.
