The public's response to the inaugural Design District being held at Doha Exhibition and Convention Center has been warm with many people demonstrating strong interest to know more and get involved in Shop Qatar's latest offering, according to organisers.

The eight-day event has been attracting fashion enthusiasts and connoisseurs alike for its local and international pop-up shops, cafes, fashion shows, workshops, master-classes as well as engaging design dialogue, all in a Parisian-inspired setting.

'So far there has been good impact to the public. Everyone is asking about the event and getting educated about the design and fashion industry in Doha. Art enthusiasts as well are coming onboard asking how they can be involved and how we can go together to take this to the next level, Noor Al Thani of National Tourism Council (NTC) said while speaking to local media recently.

The Design District will be a regular feature of Shop Qatar annually and its second edition is expected to be bigger in terms of participation and offerings, sad Al Thani.

'This is just our launch and we will be having it bigger and better next year, but so far we have achieved what we wanted, she said, adding the next edition is expected to witness more participants, talks and workshops as well as greater public engagement.

Open from 3pm to 10pm until tomorrow, the Design District features more than 60 pop-up shops showcasing unique and varied offerings as well as customised services including beauty services, designer boutiques and artisanal shops.

Some of the world's latest couture and ready-to-wear pieces are showcased at daily fashion shows on the District's runway featuring Spring/Summer collections 2019 by 20 designers from Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, Tunisia, Morocco, Lebanon, Jordan, France, India and Turkey.

Make-up, hair and beauty masterclasses by renowned makeup artists and influencers in addition to talks by fashion experts make the District a must-visit for the style savvy.

Many art lovers also visit the District for its Art Avenue where they can commission and buy on-the-spot pieces by renowned local artists including Yasser Al Mulla, Muna Al Badr and Mariam Al Mulla, as well as see the 'Fashion Meets Art Installation by Qatari fashion designer, artist and filmmaker Fahad Al Obaidly.

Visitors to the District can also savour different scrumptious cuisines offered at food stalls and food trucks both outdoor and indoor while listening to live performances by artistes playing varied musical instruments.
