Bashir lauds Qatar's support for Sudan




(MENAFN - Gulf Times) Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir lauded Qatar's support for his country, noting that the peace and stability achieved in Darfur through dialogue and the transformation of armed rebels into political parties were positive contributions to achieving national security and stability.

Addressing the crowds that gathered at the Green Square in Khartoum, al-Bashir said that Qatar was one of the supporters of Sudan, along with countries such as China, Russia, and Kuwait. The Sudanese president called on his country's youth to work together and improve their skills as they get ready for the power transition. He added that the current administration was ready to hand over power to those who deserve it. He also said that the only way to reach power in Sudan will be through the ballot box.

Al-Bashir also thanked the armed forces for what they offered to the country to help maintain its stability. He also highlighted the civilised approach of security forces in dealing with protestors, while being very firm in dealing with vandalism. The president added that what the government has achieved during the last period was done in partnership with the people, stressing that no group can destroy public property without being held accountable by the government.

He also issued a message to those who held arms saying that there was no need for anyone to go down that route following the peace agreement and the national dialogue. The president added that all issues are now up for dialogue, saying that he welcomes them to participate in comprehensive peace. Al-Bashir praised the perseverance of the Sudanese people in the face of difficult circumstances facing the country, adding that the country is more than capable of dealing with any crises it might face.

For his part, Minister of Labour, Administrative Reform and Human Resources Development Bahr Idriss Abu Garda, who is chairman of the committee of political forces, stressed the importance of strengthening national unity and adherence to national dialogue. Abu Garda stressed that dialogue is the only option available and that they must have strong will to overcome the crisis and avoid the dangers of war.

He added that the only acceptable outcome must be sovereignty, leadership, security and comprehensive peace.

Speaking about the current events, the Minister of Transport Hatem al-Ser announced that the crisis that hit the country has ended. He then reiterated the position of the leader of the Democratic Unionist Party, Mohamed Osman al-Mirghani, on the unity and cohesion of the country with continued efforts with the government of reconciliation towards the output of national dialogue.

In his speech, head of the Justice and National Liberation Party Tijani al-Sisi confirmed the party's support for the stability of the country.

Al-Sisi reviewed Sudan's strategic position and its regional environment, which included wars and conflicts that affected the country.

Al-Sisi pointed out importance of the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur and its valuable contributions to the sustainability of security and stability in Darfur. He emphasised that the Doha Document presented a model for stability after the suffering of the war, declaring that the approach of dialogue is the basis of stability and demanding quick and clear decisions to end the crisis.
