Tunis – Tourism receipts went up to USD 1.4 billion in Tunisia from January to 20 December 2018, according to numbers provided by the Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts to the news agency Tunis Afrique Presse ( TAP ). The value equals 3.9 billion dinars (USD 1.4 billion) and represented a 42.1% growth over the same period in 2017.
According to TAP, 2018 turned out to be the best of the last ten years for tourism in Tunisia. As at December 31, the country received 8.3 million visitors, a 17.7% growth over 2017.
European and Maghreb tourists are the ones that traveled the most to Tunisia. The French came first, followed by the Algerians. Maghreb is the African region gathering Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, and Mauritania.
As for overnight stays in hotels, the most popular regions were Djerba-Zarsis (photo), Sousse, Nabeul-Hammamet, Monastir-Skanes, Yasmine Hammamet and Tunis-Carthage Coasts.
