São Paulo – Sesc Sorocaba is having a special program for children in January. Every Saturday at 4 pm, the project ' Storytelling ' presents stories from different cultures and parts of the world with the art educator Danilo Minharro. The first story is going to be the Arabian tale 'The Fisherman and the Jinni,' this Saturday (5) at the Sesc's living area.

The tale is based on a story from the book 'One Thousand and One Nights' describing a very poor fisherman getting desperate because he doesn't know how he is going to support his family. While fishing, he casts his net a few times, but catches nothing but mud, rocks and shells. After three failed attempts, the fisherman prays to God to find something for his sustenance in his final attempt, then he catches a sealed jar. When he removes the cap, a plume of smoke comes out of the jar condensing into a jinni.

The four other stories are the Yoruba 'Oxafulã Visits Xango' in January 12; the tale 'Abuella Grillo' from the Bolivian Ayoreo people in 19; and 'Raissa, the City of Sadness,' also presented in Brazilian Sign Language, in 26. The event is free and for all ages.

According to Minharro, the stories told are part of the project 'Stories from the World,' where an encounter between a powerful emperor and a traveler conducts the narratives. 'The traveler tells the emperor stories from different places of the world where he had been, and my storytelling seeks to focus on the interaction with the public where they participate in the story,' said the storyteller. Danilo Minharro is graduated in Theater at UNESP and works with theater for 15 years, as an artist and an educator.
