Qatar- QC's relief programmes reach 4 million Syrians in 2018

Doha:Qatar Charity has announced that the relief projects for internally displaced persons (IDPs) inside Syria and refugees in neighbouring countries have reached nearly four million in 2018, by providing them with shelter, food, health, education, water and others, at a total cost of more than QR85m.

The number of beneficiaries of aid in Syria is estimated at more than 3.4 million work nearly QR65m, while the number of beneficiaries in the asylum countries has reached more than half a million people in Lebanon, Turkey and Jordan, and with a total value of QR20m.

The percentage of aid carried out inside Syria was 76 percent, while in the asylum countries it was estimated at 24 percent. Syria has the largest proportion of aid, given the needs of the displaced and the challenges facing their livelihoods.

As a result of the great suffering and damage caused by the Syrian crisis, the education and food supply projects have taken a large share of the aid. The food aid reached more than QR24m, including food baskets, ready meals, bakery and kitchen operations, benefiting more than 2 million beneficiaries.

In the area of education, the cost of projects, which included training teachers, running schools and providing school curricula, amounted to about QR29m, benefiting 18,000 people, while the health projects included the construction and operation of health units and hospitals, providing medical devices and medicines that benefited more than one million beneficiaries.

The shelter projects, which benefited about one million displaced persons, were distributed to pay rents for displaced persons' homes and distribution of cooking utensils, as well as the implementation of residential villages in the city of Jarabulus, in addition to other projects.

As the cold weather intensified, winter basic necessities for food, shelter and heating were provided. A number of products were distributed to the target groups like food baskets, winter clothes, blankets, heaters, heating fuel, tents and caravans to about 84,000 Syrians.

In terms of water and sanitation projects, Qatar Charity has provided assistance to families of displaced persons and refugees to ensure access to safe water in a clean environment while improving sanitation and hygiene facilities. Projects such as drilling and equipping wells for more than 89,000 people have been implemented.

Qatar Charity also carried out other projects in the same context as training projects and capacity building of displaced persons and Syrian refugees, whether inside Syria or asylum countries and comprehensive relief projects.
