Iraq names next Kirkuk security chief: official


(MENAFN) Iraq's Defense Ministry was announced to have named Haidar al-Obeidi as the next security chief for the northern Kirkuk province.

The brigadier-general in the Iraqi elite anti-terrorism force will be the successor of Major-General Maan al-Saadi, an official unveiled to Anadolu Agency.

The ministry official source declared that "al-Obeidi has now assumed responsibility for security in Kirkuk."

The official added that al-Obeidi "has previous experience fighting the Daesh terrorist group in northern, western and eastern Iraq."
