Qatar Charity to build girls school in Gaza

Doha: Qatar Charity (QC) is working on a project to build a girls schoolin Beit Lahia, north of the Gaza Strip in cooperation with the Palestinian Ministry of Education and Higher Education.

This project ‘Al Shaimaa Secondary School for Girls' comes as part of QC's efforts to reduce the overcrowding in the schools of the region due to lack of schools. The project is being implemented with the support and financing from the ‘Qatar Cyclists' and many Qatari companies at a cost of QR 5.4m. The school is expected to accommodate 1,920 students from remote area with a population of more than 80,000 persons. All the necessary construction and furnishing works are expected to be completed before September.

Mohammed Abu Haloub, director of QC's office in the Gaza Strip said that one of the objectives of the project was to provide secondary education to students in the north of Beit Lahia and its surrounding areas in the northern Gaza Strip, which lack educational facilities. The project is also aimed at creating a healthy environment suitable for female students.

Abu Haloub added that the school project includes the provision of scientific laboratories, computer lab, an appropriate library and other essential facilities and supplies necessary for the success of the educational process. Spread over a total area of 5,000 sqm, the school will have 36 rooms, of which 24 will be classrooms and the rest will be used as laboratories and management rooms, Abu Haloub noted.

He also pointed out that Gaza needs to build 30 new schools because of the increase in the number of students. He also extended his sincere thanks to the people in Qatar for their support in building the school for girls, which gives a clear indication of the good relationship between the people of Qatar and Palestine.
