Sheikh Mohammed applauds Dubai's New Year's Eve organising committee

(MENAFN - Khaleej Times) Dubai wowed millions of New Year's Eve revellers last night with its stellar firework displays and stunning laser shows. The whole emirate was transformed into a party zone, with fireworks taking over the night sky from multiple points in the city.

The seamlessspectacle has impressed evenHis Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

The Dubai Ruler took to Twitter to thank the organising committee for handling the celebrations smoothly.

"Millions of people celebrated in Dubai yesterday, hundreds of millions watched the celebrations (online and on TV), and it was easy and seamless. We thank the unknown soldiers behind hostingsuch asuccessful event. Dear event organising committee, I am always proud of you."

A total of 25 celebration sites and 14 fireworks spots were designated as 40 government entities worked hand in hand to secure New Year's Eve celebrations.The Burj Khalifa put on a show that combined its famed top-to-bottom pyrotechnic display and laser light show on the world's tallest LED-illuminated facade. Families on the Kite Beach had a front-row seat to the world famous Burj Al Arab fireworks, which lasted for more than 15 minutes.

Elsewhere at the Jumeirah Beach Residence, tourists were treated to two sets of fireworks simultaneously - at The Beach and on Bluewaters Island. The Global Village saw seven firework shows from 8pm to 1am.
