Doha: Qatar Charity (QC) has provided winter clothing to orphans in Mare, a town in Syria. A total of 525 orphans benefited from the project.

The project was carried out with generous support from the people of Qatar as part of the ongoing ‘Below Zero' campaign launched by Qatar Charity to support the vulnerable in winter

The implementation of the project coincided with the increasingly cold weather, rainstorms and floods that engulfed several camps of the Syrian displaced and refugees on the Syrian-Turkish borders.

The winter package included a coat, a winter clothing set and shoes. Last month, the ‘Below Zero' campaign was launched under the slogan ‘Share the warmth' from Al Bayli Camp for Syrian refugees on the Turkish-Syrian border.

The campaign focuses on the displaced, refugees and those affected in countries going through exceptional circumstances such as Syria, Palestine and Iraq. The campaign also includes on the poor in Kyrgyzstan, Nepal, Pakistan, Albania and Bosnia and Herzegovina, where temperatures fall below zero degree Celsius.

The campaign aims to raise QR66m to provide the necessary winter needs for 800,000 people in three main areas - food, shelter and heating. The targeted people will be given food baskets, winter clothes, blankets, heaters, fuel, and tents.

Qatar Charity, through its ‘Rofaqa' initiative, sponsored 157,000 orphans worldwide, including 3158 orphans in Syria, who receives comprehensive educational, health, and social services provided by the charity, in addition to holding many activities for them.

According to the weather forecasts of international meteorological websites, the winter in the Middle East this year (2018-2019) would be harsh, accompanied by heavy rains and snow, bringing additional challenges to the displaced Syrians, refugees and the poor people in countries where temperatures go below zero degrees Celsius.

The harsh weather could increase their suffering, especially if they do not receive adequate support to cope with the bad weather. Qatar Charity urges people in Qatar to continue supporting its ‘Below Zero' campaign in order to reach out to the largest number of displaced people, refugees and those in need.
