4,476 die amid migration missions this year: UN


(MENAFN) According to UN data, 4,476 deaths have been recorded while attempting to migrate from a country to another within this year alone.

The figures were shown in a report released on Tuesday by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) on International Migrants Day.

Thousands people have decided to take migratory routes in order to escape their countries' disputes, political crises, or economic situation.

The IOM also found that 2,217 people lost their lives in the Mediterranean this year in their migration missions.

The majority of the deceased migrants are originally from Syria, Tunisia, Iraq, Morocco, Eritrea, Pakistan, Congo, Afghanistan and Mali.
