(MENAFN- Colombo Gazette) Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa was today appointed as the new opposition leader.
Rajapaksa replaced Tamil National Alliance (TNA) leader R. Sampanthan.
The United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) had met this morning with President Maithripala Sirisena and decided to nominate Rajapaksa as the Opposition Leader.
When Parliament convened this afternoon Speaker Karu Jayasuriya announced that Rajapaksa is the new Opposition Leader.
