MENAFN- Asia Times) A Filipino man was arrested for holding a five-year-old boy for almost two hours on Monday morning and injuring six others in Sta. Mesa, Manila, in the Philippines.
According to police, the man identified himself as Dominador Abrinno, 38, from Taguig City. Abrinno he was holding the boy hostage due to the death of his brother, a Filipino migrant worker, who was killed in a police operation in Clark, Pampanga, reported.
Abrinno said his brother's death, on top of other personal problems, led him to steal a gun from a security guard at a train station. He used the gun to hold the boy hostage near the Polytechnic University of the Philippines.
Six people were injured when Abrinno opened fire as authorities tried to move in on him. The six were taken to a hospital in Sampaloc for treatment. No one suffered severe injuries.
Abrinno eventually surrendered to police and he was arrested. During questioning, Abrinno denied being under the influence of drugs, but admitted he had used narcotics in the past.
'I never thought of taking someone hostage. I did not know what I was doing. My problems have piled up,' Abrinno said.
