Ghani wants China to help enforce peace agreement


(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani met Chinese Foreign Minister, Wang Yi after the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on advancing counterterrorism, cooperation.

In a statement, the Presidential Palace said that Ghani and Wang Yi discussed the fight against terrorism, an air corridor€™s development and bilateral cooperation at a meeting on Saturday afternoon.

Ghani thanked the Chinese minister for signing the MoU on fighting terror and sought his country€™s cooperation on strengthening a regional peace consensus.

The statement quoted the president as saying: €œChina is one of Afghanistan€™s good neighbours and important regional partners as it has coordination with the US and India on peace in the country.

Wang Yi conveyed the Chinese presidents€™ best wishes to Ghani and said his country remained committed to cooperating with Afghanistan on peace, anti-terrorism efforts, rebuilding infrastructure, trade and development.

He promised China would support the Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process. Yi also said China would ask Pakistan to use its influence and convince the Taliban to join the peace process and end the war in Afghanistan.

Ghani said Afghanistan had sought all-round cooperation from China on peace agreement, as lasting stability would pave the ground for implementation of the Beijing-funded development projects in the country.
