Iraq's leader renounces UK citizenship


(MENAFN) Iraq's President Barham Salih was unveiled on Sunday to have dropped his British citizenship, abiding by the constitution of the country.

Under the Constitution of Iraq, holding dual nationality for officials is prohibited.

According to a statement issued by presidential spokesman Luqman al-Feili, "all legal measures to give up the British citizenship have been completed."

The move comes after the Iraqi president took office in October 2nd.

The British citizenship was granted to Salih while serving for the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) party.
