Bahraini foreign minister in support of Australia's decision on Jerusalem

(MENAFN) The foreign minister of Bahrain has stood by Australia"s formal recognition of West Jerusalem as Israel"s capital, as the decision would not impact a future Palestinian state with east Jerusalem as its capital.

The Australian government announced the decision on Saturday, revoking decades of Middle East policy, but said it would not relocate its embassy there at the time being.

The Arab League had issued a statement denouncing the Australian decision as "blatantly biased towards the positions and policies of the Israeli occupation".

However, Bahraini minister Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed al-Khalifa described the statement as "mere rhetoric and irresponsible".
