Afghanistan: 2 dozen die in clashes between militants, army in 24 hours


(MENAFN) Officials declared that over 26 members of the Taliban, the Islamic State (IS) and government forces have died in the restive Afghanistan in the last 24 hours.

An army spokesman in northern region Ghulam Hazrat Karimi confirmed that the government forces in the latest operation against anti-government militants carried out airstrikes targeting Taliban hideouts in Qala-e-Zal district of northern Kunduz province on Saturday, leaving four militants dead in the site and wounding two more.

Karimi added that the deaths included a Taliban group commander Mullah Nawab.

Provincial administration spokesman Ataullah Khogiani confirmed that in a similar attack, the government forces supported fighting jets targeted the hideouts of the IS outfit in Haska Mina district of the eastern Nangarhar province on Friday, leaving 10 armed militants, with two group commanders namely Zahid and Khalid, dead on the scene.
