SHARJAH, 15th December, 2018 (WAM) -- The Sharjah International Commercial Arbitration Centre, TAHKEEM, has announced the establishment of a centre for youth.

The new entity called the Sharjah International Commercial Arbitration Centre for Youth is aimed at promoting the culture of arbitration and preparing a generation of young Emiratis well versed in this field. It is an outcome of the workshop held in February 2018 under the theme "Our Youth and the Future of Commercial Arbitration" which was organised by TAHKEEM in cooperation with the Emirates Youth Council.

The new council comprises 12 young members selected by TAHKEEM. Over a renewable two-year term, the council will represent young people in the field of arbitration in the UAE with the objective of promoting the youth, harnessing their talent, unleashing their potential and maximising their contributions to the UAE National Agenda for Youth through the implementation of programmes, policies, plans and activities aimed at enhancing their decision-making and learning skills, in line with the rapid global developments in the field of arbitration.

Abdullah Deaifis, Chairman of the TAHKEEM Executive Committee, underlined the importance of establishing the new council. "The new council will promote the culture of arbitration, acting as an enabler for youths' empowerment, by supporting their activities, and developing initiatives and projects that address their needs and interests," he said.

"The council will also establish a set of values that match the institutional principles of TAHKEEM and provides a unified and sustainable platform for engaging youth with key officials of public and private sector institutions."

He underscored the need to include a special category for youth in the questionnaires and studies conducted by TAHKEEM, and then coordinate with various government and private sector institutions to develop periodic reports on the activities and initiatives carried out by TAHKEEM and raise them with the Ministry of Youth.

Hamada Ali Al-Baluchi has been appointed as the President of the new Council, with Mariam Sultan bin Hiddah, Ali Al-Shuweihi, Muhammad Ali Al-Hammadi, Hameed Al-Owais, Ahmad Al-Hammadi, Hamed Al-Hammadi, Muhammad Ali Ibrahim, Iman Abdul Razzaq, Halima Al-Madfa', Maria Darwishi and Alia Al Mulla, as members.

Passion for youth-focussed issues, teamwork, and knowledge of TAHKEEM's core competencies were the main criteria for selecting the board members.
