(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) LONDON, Dec 14 (KUNA) -- For the second year in a row, Egypt and Liverpool's forward Mohammad Salah has been named the BBC African Footballer of the Year.
Salah beat Morocco's Medhi Benatia, and Senegal's Kalidou Koulibaly and Sadio Mane as well as Ghana's Thomas Partey to the prize, BBC reported.
Salah also obtained the award last year in an exceptional season with Liverpool and Egypt's national team.
He and Arsenal's player Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang currently top the scoring charts with 10 goals.
The Egyptian star helped Liverpool cruise into the 16th round of the Champions League after scoring three goals, including the winning goal against Napoli in a decisive match.
It was the 13th goal of Liverpool's player at the Champions League to become the second best scorer for the club in the history of the tournament after the legend Steven Gerrard.
Salah is the third Egyptian player, after Mohammad Abu Tereika and Mohammad Barakat, to win this award.
He joined the list of legends of African players like George Weah, Abedi Pele, Jay-Jay Okocha and Didier Drogba.
Liverpool's forward won the prize of the three best player in the world in 2018 after Croatia's Luka Modric and Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo.
He is the first ever Egyptian who managed to reach the final list of the world's best player.
In addition to BBC award, Salah won the sixth place of the Footballer of the Year in "France Football" magazine.
It is the highest ranking of an African player of the Ballon d'Or since 2009 when Cameroon's player Samuel Eto'o came fifth. (end) mrn.hm
