Ukraine, NATO have common view on situation in Kerch Strait region Poroshenko

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) Ukraine and NATO have a common view on the situation in the Kerch Strait region and consider such actions as an act of Russian aggression.

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko stated this at a press conference following the meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in Brussels, Ukrinform reports.

"The escalation of the security situation in the Black Sea was at the center of our discussion. We have a completely clear view on what has happened. Russia has openly committed a rude act of aggression against Ukraine in the international waters of the Black Sea, said Poroshenko.

He thanked NATO partners for consistent and prompt assistance to Ukraine and reminded that during the crisis a few hours after the phone talk between the President of Ukraine and the Secretary General of NATO, an immediate dialogue was held, including the meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Commission at the level of ambassadors. This step allowed the parties to coordinate actions in response to the Russian aggression against the Ukrainian ships.

As reported, on November 25, Russian border ships committed aggressive actions against Ukrainian vessels that set sail from the port of Odesa to the port of Mariupol. Russian special forces fired on and captured three Ukrainian vessels in the Kerch Strait. There were 24 sailors aboard.

The captured Ukrainians have been taken to Moscow's Lefortovo Prison and three wounded to prison's medical center.
