21 ISIS members flee Iraqi jail, 15 of them recaptured


(MENAFN) Twenty one prisoners, most of them ISIS members imprisoned on terrorism accusations, fled from the prison in northern Iraq's Kurdish region but 15 of them have been detained again, Kurdish security officials emphasized on Thursday.

The fortified prison of Sosa is sited close to the Iraqi Kurdish city of Sulaimaniya and contains mostly militants of the radical group who were arrested during the battle against ISIS which started in 2014.

Kurdish security officials launched manhunt operations after the escaping late on Wednesday and 15 of the 21 were arrested again, two security officials affirmed. The locations of the other six are still undiscovered.

Even though Sosa prison is located in the Kurdish region, Iraq's federal government has complete control over the jail.
