Victory Team’s Reiterer within striking distance of second world crown

(MENAFN- Editorial) Victory Team’s Kevin Reiterer is just one point away from a second world title following his undisputed wins in both Motos in the final round of the 2018 UIM-ABP Aquabike Class Pro Circuit World Championship being held at the Khalid Lagoon in Sharjah.
Run under near-perfect conditions on the waters of the Khalid Lagoon, Reiterer won both the Motos held on Thursday to put the 26-year-old Victory Team rider within one point of a second world crown in the Ski Division. There is one more Moto to be run on Friday and Reiterer will now need just one point to pocket his second career world title in the Ski division.
Standing in his way, though, is Frenchman Rapahel Maurin who took two second places behind Reiterer to keep up the pressure on the champion to-be. With 25 points on offer to the winner of Friday’s last Moto, the points difference between Reiterer and Maurin is 24.
“There is everything to fight for in the last Moto. I have been doing my best to try and stop Kevin, but he has simply too good,” Maurin said.
“On Friday, the plan is simple as I want to do my best and see how Kevin fares. I know it is just one point for him, but for me it is everything to fight for,” the Frenchman stated.
Reiterer won Moto 1 in Ski Division GP1 from pole position with the Austrian rider cruising to the chequered flag 31.29 seconds ahead of 2018 European Champion Maurin to extend his series lead to 19 points. Dane Anders Keller was the best of a distant pack of riders and grabbed the bronze medal.
Reiterer closed in on his second world crown in the Ski Division GP1 by winning Moto 2 by a 30-75 seconds margin. The Austrian was again the class of the field and, even though Maurin finished second again, Reiterer now has a near unassailable 24-point lead. Belgian Quinten Bossche finished third.
Reiterer last won the world title on debut in 2015. Now within striking distance of a second crown, the 26-year-old from Austria knows exactly what needs to be done for a second glorious moment of his career. “In the end it has been a good battle and I am pleased to see my jet-ski perform at its best. I am now headed for a double and I need to have everything under control on Friday to make this dream come true a second time,” he added.
