Congo: warehouse blaze demolishes voting machines

(MENAFN) A presidential adviser declared that a blaze has erupted overnight at a warehouse in Congo's capital, Kinshasa, leaving thousands of voting machines and ballot boxes, which were prepared to be used in the December 23 presidential election, devastated.

Barnabe Kikaya Bin Karubi confirmed that 70 percent of the material set to be used for voting in Kinshasa, the capital where at least 15 percent of the country's population is resident, had been demolished in the blaze.

However, preparations for the upcoming election are to keep going, according to Congo's election commission.
