Moderate earthquake startles Tennessee


(MENAFN) An earthquake of a 4.4 magnitude has startled the southeastern U.S. state of Tennessee early Wednesday morning and serious property losses or victims were recorded.

The quake, which was announced as the second most powerful to strike the eastern part of Tennessee, was also sensed in places as far as Atlanta, the capital city of Georgia.

The U.S. Geological Survey declared that the epicenter of the tremor was located close to Decatur, around 240 km away from state capital Nashville.

The USGS confirmed that an aftershock of a 3.3 magnitude was sensed around 13 minutes later.
